Excellent

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-03-09 02:16:48
Fast an easy to use.

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-03-08 20:50:46
Creating a workflow file is a little bit tricky, but Xpand, Xtend, Check, and the other concepts are great!

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-03-08 06:55:30
I like the simplicity of Xpand.

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-03-07 12:38:43
Great Framework with high potential. I like this plugin, because of its flexibility to describe models (Xtext, EMF, UML, etc.) and the generated artifacts from C/C++ over Java even to complex server configurations.

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-03-07 11:41:55
oAW is one of the most widely-used, most mature frameworks for code generation. Its flexibility clearly sets it apart from other code generators.

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-03-06 17:23:28
Easy and flexible and powerfull mdsd framework

User: AnonymousRating: 102009-02-15 08:40:42
Really great framework! We use it to produce C++ and Java code from both UML and DSL models.

User: AnonymousRating: 52009-01-05 14:44:43
A great resource - many thanks!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-21 04:23:43
we use it in production and find it very good. It should be part of eclipse IDE

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-12 08:10:35
Best modeling solution available, especially Xtext.

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-11 16:16:13
one of best external DSL tools I know. Jaromir

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-11 06:50:40
Good: very lightweight, just the right amount of internal plumming (meta models), adapters for common model formats (RSM, MagicDraw, XML <- XSD), nice template language, Xtext!, Eclipse integration. Not good: very little documentation (beyond the bloody obvious), workflow engine that's lacking (XML config. hell), bugs in Eclipse integration.

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-10 17:36:39
Lots of features and fairly robust, but internally the code is quite messy, their community support is limited and difficult to use, and it is difficult to contribute or get updates (they still use CVS for version control).

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-10 09:51:08
Enabling a true step forward in raising the conceptual level of software building

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-10 08:25:37
Nice tool. The only annoying weakness is that it does manage properly dependent models (i.e. models in multiple files with references), and that workflows are not user-friendly.

User: AnonymousRating: 72008-11-10 06:38:11
The concept is really impressive. I would like improvements in the below listed areas - 1. More tweaking in terms of performance. 2. The expression language can be upgraded to include more querryable syntax. 3. coverage tool or the analyser could be automated. 4. manual editing the workflow file could be automated. Suggestion - provide a wizard which list down which class to use to load file, generate model.

User: AnonymousRating: 12008-11-10 05:10:17
great tool

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-10 04:59:54
I succesfuly use the project in our product mainly for EMF-related model to model transformations . The xtend/xpand level debuger would be nice (it's sometimes hard to find the real source of problem). The Xtend editor still is in need of polishing (sometimes showing errors where there is no problem). Overall the project is really interesting and helpful.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-10 04:38:13
A must when you work with model driven development. Highly integrated and consistent.

User: Martin.TrummerRating: 92008-11-10 03:37:08
great tool and very good support in the forums

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-10 03:23:20
great tool suite for mdsd!

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-10 03:18:37
I used this framework in several projects and created few universaly usable "machines". The result is handy and very good in usage across development-teams! More of that!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-09 15:47:40
... very powerful MDA generator.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-09 15:39:48
I like it very much. Saves me tons of time :-)

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-09 15:03:57
The best code generation plug-in out there!

User: AnonymousRating: 72008-11-09 08:45:44
better documentation, best practices and refernce implementations (like EJB3 architecture) needed

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-09 07:55:37
a very versatile framework to build code generators

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-09 04:09:33
OOA is very useful and it simply just works!

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-08 15:41:38
Very usefull tool to make parsers and nice Eclipse editor integration.

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-08 15:07:39
Powerful and yet simple to use MDSD framework

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-08 14:28:24
OpenArchitectureWare, in combination with the Eclipse MDT Framework, it is simply great!!!

User: AnonymousRating: 12008-11-08 11:55:49
As most eclipse plugins: unstable, no good documentation, not ready to use, ...

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-08 06:28:54
An excellent toolset for MDSD and getting better all the time. We've been working with it for over a year now with UML and DSLs to generate code, reverse engineer code to models and perform model transformations. If you want to design and use domain specific languages and/or UML to model and generate code in the Eclipse platform then you won't have to look any further. The integration with Eclipse and EMF is well done. The Xpand generator language is a great language for generating code from models, a huge improvement over JET in my opinion. The main hurdle to overcome is learning to think with models. A little experience with OCL or an object query language will help you learn the expression language and Xtend. I came to oAW with a UML/OCL/Eclipse/RSA background and was generating code from UML within 2 days.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-08 05:20:25
I am using it daily!

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-08 04:40:39
Good successor for OptimalJ!

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-08 02:53:34
Great toolbox for model driven development

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-08 02:17:38
Really powerfull tool to produce software.

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-08 01:25:21
great tool to handle generator tasks within a project. used it in several projects and it was always very helpful :-))

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 23:15:11
Very useful plugin with loads of features. However, the workflow management could be drag and drop or tool based. It takes a bit of getting used to configure the workflow in OAW

User: totexRating: 72008-11-07 19:42:35
great framework, very promising project for MDSD development. Although, a better documentation will be needed to make oAW more popular.

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 18:00:08
Top of its class

User: AnonymousRating: 72008-11-07 17:48:51
oAW is extremely sophisticated and useful. I hate to think of all the reams of code I'd have to write if I had to do model driven design code generation myself. However, because oAW is so sophisticated and uses EMF, it is quite complex. There is a long and steep learning curve since the languages (Extend, Expand) are different than other language I've seen before (and I've programmed in many languages). So it doesn't feel very intuitive. As a result, the forums are a life saver as long as an experienced user or oAW developer responds. I think that oAW can be improved to be more newbie-friendly and easier to use, but it is a very powerful tool that is probably better than the other tools that are out there.

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 16:56:47
Firstly: Thank You, oAW-Team, very much indeed. I hope Parser for Workflow would be better> with clear Error-Messages, however oAW have excellent online-Support in Forum and its WORK. As soon it would be (simply) possible to make eclipse-Plugin from own Generator, then it has really best Chance to be MDSD-blockbuster.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 16:42:55
Much more reliable, documented and understandable than other eclipse plugins for similar goals

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 16:21:23
Open architectureware is the most innovative tool there is for next level development. They should get 1 place JAX award! At least from me. Thank you very much!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 15:59:49
best generator tool ever

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 15:47:28
Not always stable, but a great technology!

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-07 15:29:22
54 lines of code and 4 hours to build something I'd been needing for ages and had given up on using other tools for (including several hundred lines of prolog - which is well suited to the kind of problem). From scratch - including download and installation. Say no more.

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 15:23:07
very useful!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 15:15:47
I used it few years back and it did a great work. oAW is the best MDD framework I have ever used. It provides the right balance between simplicity and flexibility.

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 15:06:52
We have used openArchitectureWare exetnsively for our project, which involve major code generation. We had used other tools before (Freemarker,Velocity) and we can judge out of experience that OAW is vastly superior.

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 14:30:17
Extremely useful plugin, well documented for learners and an efficient forum for finding answers. The only reason I do not give a 10 is that certain complex features are less well documented.

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-07 14:14:45
I find openArchitectureware very useful, especially because of its integration with Eclipse. Sometimes I do find documentation to be a bit difficult to find, or to specifically find what I'm looking for. So that could use some improvement.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 14:10:31
great plugin

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 14:08:51
xtext + xtend rock my world

User: AnonymousRating: 12008-11-07 13:40:57
great

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 13:36:35
we use oaw in many projects with a big success. It is the best mdsd framework available. Holger Martin www.softcon.de

User: AnonymousRating: 82008-11-07 12:45:07
Excellent feeature set! Needs some more work on consolidation and quality of development time tools.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 12:34:35
If avoided modeling because it has to be in UML try modeling in XText of openArchitectureWare (although you may use it with UML as well). You have full control over your grammar and the textual models reflect the language of your project. For grammar, models and templates openArchitectureWare uses editors integrated seemlessly into Eclipse. The Expand language to be used in templates is very powerful and common template expressions can be extracted into extensions.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 12:27:01
Very innovative and useful. Top of the industry in their category.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 12:18:00
I am using the generic editor. I is a good base for my own model form editor.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 12:06:33
i use this plugin for already 3 years for various projects at work, and i have seen a great team of enthusiastic software developers make it a mature and reliable platform for MDSD. thanks!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 11:59:58
This is an awesome MDA, MDSD framework. Easy to use and powerfull, it features unique stuff like textual DSLs and Model weaving ! They rock !

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 11:56:13
really awesome tool!

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 11:38:42
Perhaps the best open source MDSD framework under Eclipse.

User: AnonymousRating: 12008-11-07 11:37:29
The plugin is way to complex to be usefull.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 11:35:49
One of the best MDA tools, great work!!!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 11:28:00
The best way to do MDD. Wish more xText activities

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 11:04:23
I used oaw in two projects.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 11:03:08
Simply Great!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 10:55:59
We have been usinng openArchitectureWare for a year now to build our model driven software factory. We use Xtend, Xpand, Xtext and Checks based on Ecore/EMF. Great set of tools that fit together very well. oAW has achieved the difficult but important balance between being conceptually clean and being pragmatic. I would recommend oAW to everyone who is looking into developing DSLs with Eclipse.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 10:53:01
oAw is a nice environment to develop DSL modeling environments. We are using it in a MSc module at the University of Leicester where students use oAw to define textual DSLs. Excellent job!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-11-07 10:45:33
very nice framework, with xtext we can realize a project, that would be impossible for us to realize without xtext

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 10:36:36
It's great plugin. I am using it for about 1 year for generating code from UML models. It works fine with oAW :-)

User: AnonymousRating: 92008-11-07 10:36:03
Amazingly useful and complete set of tooling that takes the pain out of model driven development and empowers developers to take advantage of this powerful paradigm.

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-09-29 14:09:20
best MDSD Generator framework I have seen

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-06-06 03:05:08
Most of the innovative tools ever. With XText giving you the possibility of language oriented programming. Grate M2M, M2C Transformation realization. Cartridges availabe with ready solutions for Hibernate, Spring etc. -> fornax-platform.org , use it and you will be fast!

User: AnonymousRating: 102008-05-31 04:18:49
Best M2T Engine for Eclipse today

User: AnonymousRating: 72008-05-01 11:23:33
Eclipse tooling requires work - looking forward to release 5 !!!

User: AnonymousRating: 12008-02-28 04:10:44
Not easy to use

User: AnonymousRating: 82007-09-17 09:05:06
Best code-generation tool I have encountered so far.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-06-27 18:22:04
Wow! Never will do a project without this tool again - hopefully.

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-05-23 03:43:18
Excellent plugin. Simple to use, i wrote an generator with Xpand2 langage very simply and quickly. The OpenArchitectureWare Forum is very reactive. I love this tool.

User: AnonymousRating: 42007-04-08 11:39:25
Much work to make little thing.

User: AnonymousRating: 62007-04-06 06:07:06
Quite hard to tackle and a big lack of editors.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-03-19 06:29:11
Excellent tool and great support of the developers in the oaw-forums!

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-03-07 12:43:27
Absolutely great tool. I used it in several projects and it helped me to save a lot of time.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-03-07 03:06:40
next-gen code generation!

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-24 15:13:30
Great and versatile plugin! Some more documentation is missing and some flaws still exist e.g. in Eclipse editors. But support is great and the product is just to good! :-)

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-24 07:21:39
just great functionality, but not 100% stable

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-22 23:44:27
not easy to learn. (btw: NO mdsd tool is easy to learn) well documented and you'll found everything you need for MDA / MDSD. excellent eclipse editors.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-20 15:13:05
Very usefull and good integrated in eclipse tool!!!

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-19 11:14:43
Using oAW for code generation has saved our company many months of effort.

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-19 04:16:30
Great tool! OAW has been the savior of our project.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 09:51:02
amazing tool, I use it in all my projects

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 07:43:18
I used oAW tool in a proof of concept project and it turned out to be THE next tool I am going to invest time in. It offeres really great flexibility when it comes to MDSD.

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 07:14:24
Very usefull, especially the xText framework for your own DSL

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 05:45:22
i have used oAW in my diploma theses. It is a very great Framework for model driven development. Now i am using it to develop web portals and it works. Use the model driven approach to create faster your code.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 05:09:23
Good tool, good community. Today i think this is the only valuable tool suite for Eclipse platform if you need your own DSL language implementation and custom code genereation.

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 04:23:06
- excellent functionality - user docs/installation could need a final touch

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 04:15:43
Absolutely awesome tool!

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 04:07:27
Very excellent tool which helps us to keep the architecture of your systems consistent.

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 03:39:48
I am using oAW for my thesis. It's a really complete plugin for model-driven software development. And the community is very active.

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 03:29:25
Hello, I'm writting a thesis in computer science. We've using openArchitectureWare for generating HCI mock up (here in Web JSF techno) from MACAO's diagrams (DSL). oAW with the Xpend2 language is able to generate our mockup from our models. oAW take our metamodel, in my case it's an EMF model, and permit to write templates with direct navigation/references in the metamodel. oAW is integrated with Eclipse and give help completion et errors on strong type checking based on our metamodel. oAW is a smooth tool because the generation is commanded from an XML file witch defined and adapted the generated process. oAW generation is simple as it need one click on this file and run generation. oAW is not a perfect tool, its has issues or evolutions that can be discuss on the oAW forum. It's a precious place for help when developping, and your remarks participe to improve futur releases. In computer science, it's not so easy to find a tool simple that do what you want with so less learning effort...that some time we don't see the depth of the iceberg... Nicolas Ferry

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 02:37:22
the genererator tools are very powerful, especially the xtend language. unfortunately the codecompletion and error-checks of the oaw-editors still do not work right.

User: AnonymousRating: 82007-02-16 02:25:28
Best open source MDSD/MDA tool I evaluated so far- even better than a few proprietary ones. Rich set of features, useful forum, and a reactive team. Still lacking documentation however. More oriented MDSD/DSL than MDA/UML too...

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 02:18:24
The most powerful MDSD tool I have encountered. Production grade quality, with few minor issues to be resolved. Very active and helpful support forums!

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-16 01:06:03
Since I use oAW I could reduce the amount of time to realize Jave EE Projects by 30%. The quality is higher and the maintenance is much easier. I choose oAW, because the languages used for model transformation and generating code are very easy to learn.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 00:29:25
oAW is an excellent plugin for MDSD / MDA. oAW is very flexible and allows you to use your own DSL. without oAW I couldnt imagine how to develope a large application with less people in short timeframe. ekkehard

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-16 00:07:53
Very impressive functionality and really good tool for code generation

User: AnonymousRating: 92007-02-15 17:47:32
Great flexible generator framework. Easy to learn and powerful expression language.

User: AnonymousRating: 102007-02-15 17:17:48
saved my day :)
